Medal Haul From BC Minor Baseball Championships

It was a fantastic weekend for the Abbotsford Angels Hardball Association, as five teams represented our city at BCMBA Provincial Championships across the province.  The players, coaches and parents were wonderful ambassadors for Abbotsford on and off the field, displaying sportsmanship and class along with skill and determination on the diamond.

Congratulations go out to the Peewee AAA Angels who captured the Gold Medal in Cloverdale with a win over the host team in the Final.  This gutsy win saw the Angels come back from 0-5 and 2-8 deficits to win 12-8.  To get to the Final the boys had to win a marathon extra innings contest with Richmond in the Semifinals.  The victory gives the core group of the team their 3rd Provincial Championship in 4 years, after winning back to back in Mosquito.

The 2014 Mosquito AAA Angels equalled that feat with a win in Kamloops on Sunday.  The boys defended their Mosquito A Championship from last summer to also go back to back. The team was dominant through the tournament and defeated Cloverdale pool play, avenging losses to the Spurs in the Boulanger and Valley of Champions Tournaments.  In the Final the team defeated Ladner in rematch of last year’s Gold Medal game. The win gives the AAHA 5 Gold Medals in Mosquito in the last 5 years.

Cloverdale was the opponent in another Finals for the Angels, as the Bantam AAA team battled the Spurs in Rutland.  This time Cloverdale was the winner, but our Bantam AAA boys should be very proud of the Silver Medal they bring home to Abbotsford.

Bronze was the Medal that the Mosquito A Angels won in Victoria.  The boys had a good showing at the Provincials, making the final four.  Unfortunately the eventual Champions, Campbell River, knocked out the Angels in the Semifinals.  The team had to be content with taking on Ladner for the unofficial “Mainland Championship” and took the Bronze Medal game 14-4.

In PoCo, the Peewee AA boys didn’t win a medal, but the team should be proud of way they turned their season around in the second half and went on a big winning streak to qualify for the Provincials.

Coming up this week, there are more medals up for grabs, as the Bantam A Angels travel to Burnaby and the Mosquito AAA Tier 2 Angels make the trip to Duncan for their respective tournaments.   After that the Bantam AAA boys head to Alberta for the Western Canada Tournament, while the Peewee AAA Angels continue their amazing season with a trip to London, Ontario, for the Peewee National Championships.

Congratulations to all the players who competed for the AAHA this summer.  Thanks for playing hard and representing our association and our city so well!
