Angels Are Going to Milwaukee

The Bantam AAA Angels will represent British Columbia after winning the BC Baseball Elimination Tournament on Sunday.  With the victory, the Angels will play as Team BC at a tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later this month.

The top AAA teams in the province gathered in Tsawwassen and Ladner for a four day tournament.  The Angels were perfect through the Pool rounds with a 4-0 record with victories over Burnaby, White Rock, Nanaimo and Victoria.

On Sunday Abbotsford played Tri-Cities in the Semi-Finals.  Carter Harbut took the mound and was dominant, striking out 11 and going all 7 innings in a 4-0 victory.

The Final featured a rematch between the Angels and Victoria, who had met in an extremely close pool game. Travis McDougall got the start, and by the time he took the mound the Angels had already built a 5-0 lead. After two innings the Angels had exploded for 16 runs. Victoria never gave up however, and clawed away at the Angels’ lead, getting to the Abby pitchers like no other team has so far this season. In the end, the big lead that the Angels had built up proved to be enough, and Abbotsford prevailed by a score of 17-11.

Through the course of the tournament, all 13 players made big contributions to the win. Coach Tim Blake is to be congratulated for taking the approach that player development comes before winning. It is so good that in the end, this proved to be a key factor in the team’s success.

Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff on a tremendous tournament. We know that you will represent Abbotsford and British Columbia well!
