“Ultimate Team Victories”
PeeWee AA team qualifies for Provincials! After a tough 2-4 start to the summer season the boys knew they had to win all of their remaining 5 games to even have a chance to qualify for the provincials. Plus we would need some help from other teams.
It started in Chilliwack on July 19 in a wild 16-14 win over top ranked Chilliwack. That was the start of the team winning their last 5 games in a row. They needed Cloverdale to lose their last 2 games on Sunday, July 27 to be guaranteed a provincial berth and Cloverdale ended up losing both their games thus ensuring a berth for Abbotsford in the provincials. The boys showed a lot of character over the 5 game winning streak knowing that each game their backs were against the wall. They “gutted” out some wins in what could only be described as “ultimate team victories”. They had many players willing to sacrifice their at-bats in order to better the team’s chances to win. ( Jordan Epp and Brodie Kelly led the way with 3 sacrifices each)
Individually there has been some great performances this summer. The team has 7 players with an On Base Percentage of 0.350 or greater, led by Josh Siemens (0.528) and Brady Rempel (0.489) and Chris Pidlisecky (0.472). Batting average: team has 4 players with an average over .300 led by Josh Siemens (0.478); Brady Rempel (0.368); Chris Pidlisecky (0.317)
Our defense has been a strong part of our team only giving up only 61 runs in 11 league games. This was 4th lowest out of the 12 teams. All around team effort on defense each and every game with every player making big contributions at different times.
Our pitching was strong. Led by second year players, Kole Jessamine and Max Masztalar the team has a good pitching rotation. Also had solid outings from 1st players David Draayers and , Austin Tuckwood, and many others throughout the team.
Other solid contributors to our team were Mikey Milne with excellent back catching; Cole Kinney with his tremendous speed on the base paths and Brayden Krahn with his excellent OF play and his continuous upbeat attitude in the dugout.
The team is off to Port Coquitlam for the provincials July 31- Aug 3.
