Peewee AA: Nothing’s Easy!

Coach Rob and Coach Lance: Displeasure and Dismay

The Peewee AA Angels knew that this summer season would be a dogfight, and that was never more true than this week as the boys took on Newton and the Surrey Canadians. On paper these looked like easy games, as our spring AA teams hammered both teams in one-sided wins earlier this year. But games aren’t played on paper, and the Angels were forced to scratch and claw for a couple of narrow victories. To their credit, the opposition came to play. On Tuesday in Newton, the Angels simply were not mentally prepared and had a scare put into them before waking up to take the victory. Coach Rob, who is normally amongst the most upbeat and positive coaches around, was clear in expressing his displeasure, letting the boys know in no uncertain terms that their approach to this game was unacceptable.  On Wednesday at home to Surrey, the boys were much more ready to compete, but again the opposition fought hard and the game was in doubt until a late Angels rally secured the win.  After two scares, the team earned two more W’s for the standings. More importantly, the coaches are hopeful that the boys also remembered, as Coach Lance is wont to say, “Nothing’s easy!”  The team now heads into its final stretch of qualifying games, still confident that if we bring our best to the park each night, we can nail down a spot in the upcoming provincial championships.
