Peewee A Summer Ball News

Hello all Peewee A Players, If your interested in trying out for Peewee A Summer Ball please review this message from Head Coach Ross Jones:

It’s that time again where we start preparing for the Summer Ball teams.

PeeweeAThis year’s Peewee A tryouts will be held at 6:00 pm, May 26th and 28thth at Crossley Field. I have asked to have some independent evaluators out to assist in this year’s team selection. I believe this evaluation process gives transparency and helps make it more fair for everyone. With that said, the summer baseball expectations and schedule is set by the head coach and is as follows.

Schedule:

·           Evaluations – May 26th and 28th. Players wishing to try out must be at theMay 26 evaluations. If your team is playing on the 26th please let me know so we can make other arrangements. An initial cut may be made after that tryout with a select group of players returning for the 2nd evaluation on the 28th.

·         Team announcement will happen after the Peewee A regular season.

·         Practices will be 4 times a week after all house league ball has ended and will be reduced to 2 or 3+ Batting cage time when the game schedule is released.

·         Tournament schedule has yet to be confirmed. There will be as 2-4 tournaments over the course of the summer season.

·         If we qualify for provincials they take place July 31st – August 3rd

·         After that say Hello to the life you left behind June 15th  – J

Expectations:

·         Please review the schedule carefully, as it is a large time commitment.

·         The league fees were $ 215 per player in 2014 and as a team we needed to fund raise approx. $1,500.00 for tournaments and additional team apparel. I have not been informed of league fees yet but I would expect costs to be similar this year.

·         Player attitude, athletic ability and mental toughness are characteristics that are important to me.  I believe failure with composure is something that baseball can and should teach young players. But keeping in mind I will expect players to train hard, and be ready to compete for Abbotsford.

·         The practices will be approx. 2 hrs long, and I will require parents to assist in the field set-up before and after games/practices. Summer ball is not a drop and run summer camp.

·         Player positions will be determined by the coaches, and I ask for parent patience and support. If your player hears the parent not agreeing with coaches decisions they will not commit and the team will not “Gel” or work well as a unit. Please approach me before or after a game or practice to discuss, if you have concerns. I’m very approachable, most of the time.

·           Please send your player to games/practices properly equipped, rested, good nutrition and with water & a snack (if needed) for half way through a 2-3 hr game. Success begins with preparation.

I believe Baseball is a great sport that will teach young players confidence, composure & focus without them even realizing it. Less time on the couch is better for coaches too!
