Nats Down Phillies

NationalsNationals 14
Phillies 10

On one of the most beautiful evenings so far this season the top 2 teams in the National League, at the All-Star Break, squared off at Lions Park on Monday evening.

The Nationals had their full roster available while the Phillies were dealing with having Cardel Dick on the DL due to an illness contract while travelling to Alberta.

Ryan Sullivan was sent to the mound for the Nationals and after giving up a base on balls to the first batter, Kian Dobson, he was steady, only allowing only Dobson to score on a fielder’s choice hit by Phillies All-Star representative, Jackson Krahn.  In the bottom of the first, the Nationals came out swinging as the Phillies sent first year player, Jessie Peters to pitch, and were able to score their 4 runs.

PhilliesThe second inning saw the game tighten up as the middle of the order for the Phillies scored 4 while only allowing the Nationals to score 2.  Koben Bath and Tait Lee pitched the middle innings for the Nationals and in combination allowed only 5 runs on an evening when Lee was a game time decision to play, while dealing with an illness of his own.  Jackson Krahn pitched well over the closing innings for the Phillies but the Nats Bats found ways to move runners around the bases.

As the Open Inning started, the Nationals sent closer Jack Taylor to the mound.  Taylor was able to close out the game on 10 pitches, ensuring that the Nationals wouldn’t require their last bats. Final Score: Nationals 14 – Phillies 10

For the Nationals, Koben Bath was given the Pita Pit Player of the Game for his steady performance on the mound and for going 2 for 2 at the plate, scoring 1 run and stealing 4 bases.
