Angels Turn the Tables on the Sox at Bender Fields

MosquitoAThe Mosquito A 10U Angels travelled to Bender Fields in Lynden over the past weekend for the “Mid-Summer Classic.”

The boys were keen to face some new teams and new challenges. They got that right away as they faced a strong Snohomish Sox team.  The opposition put the Angels under pressure and the team learned some hard lessons in a 15-6 mercy rule loss, the Angels’ first loss of the summer season.

There are lessons to be learned from every game, whether you win or lose. Indeed, sometimes there are more lessons to be learned from losing!  The Angels resolved to learn from the morning loss and grow from it. They were much better after lunch, defeating the Shelco Braves 14-0.

The Angels came back to the fields on Sunday morning, and were ready to play in a strong 11-3 victory over Eastside. The victory set up the final game that the Angels were hoping for, a rematch with Snohomish.

Abbotsford came out like a different team in the rematch with the Sox.  They were strong on the bats and much more sound defensively. The tables were turned, and this time the Angels came away with the mercy rule victory by the score of 12-3.

As always, a big thanks goes out to the hosts of the Bender Fields tournaments, including organizer Matt McGrath. What an amazing facility they have down there, with so many baseball fields hosting hundreds and hundreds of baseball players and supporters having fun.  Again, we are left to wonder about how it would be if Abbotsford were to have something even the fraction of that size, where we could have gatherings of our own incredible baseball community…
