Mini Mosquito at Lions Park
The Mini Mosquito Abbotsford Angels Red squad hosted the Ridge Meadows Royal Blues on Wednesday night at Lions Park. It was a beautiful night for baseball and a large crowd assembled to see the action in the wonderful setting by Mill Lake. Trey Gairdner took the hill for the Angels in the first one and one half innings and limited the visitors to just one run. Trey showed great resilience to battle hard and get a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the inning. Logan Clark came on part way through the second and also pitched the third, also giving up just one run in a solid outing. The defence behind them was strong, and the run support at the plate even stronger, as the Angels racked up 12 runs through three innings. Highlights at the plate for the Angels included a big night for Bryn Alexander, who hit a triple and a double to drive in 5 runs. With a 12-2 lead heading into the open inning, Bryn took to the mound. He started well, pitching strikes which is all the coaches ask of the pitchers at this level. When you pitch strikes, the other team will swing the bat. The Royals got their bats going, and with some walks manged to put a few runs on the board. Jimmy Boulanger came in to close things out for the Angels, sealing the win at 12-7.
