Angels Battle in Burnaby
Angels Finish 2-2 in Burnaby:
It was a soggy weekend in Burnaby where the Mosquito AAA T2 Angels played some solid baseball, but finished the weekend with a record of 2-2. The Angels started the weekend off looking to avenge a July long weekend loss to a strong Aldergrove team. Aldergrove came out strong taking a 6-1 lead after 3 innings. Abbotsford was hitting, but couldn’t string together enough hits to really do any damage. In the fourth Abbotsford made a charge scoring 3, but that’s as close as they could get, eventually losing 11-7.
The second game saw Abbotsford take on valley rival Chilliwack. Both teams looked tired in their second game of the day. After Abbotsford scored 3 in the first, neither team could manage much offense until Chilliwack tied the game 3-3 in the fourth. Abbotsford responded with 1 run in the fifth, which was enough for a 4-3 win.
The lone game on Saturday saw Abbotsford taking on the Vernon Canadians. Abbotsford found their bats again scoring 11 runs while giving up 7. The win placed Abbotsford in the semi-final on Sunday.
The semi-final match-up saw Abbotsford taking on league rival Tsawwassen. The Angels came out strong taking a 4-1 lead after 2 innings and adding 1 more in the third. Tsawwassen however, found a way to shut the Angels down the rest of the game, and started to slowly claw their way back. They scored 1 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth, making it a 1 run game heading into the sixth. Unfortunately for Abbotsford, Tsawwassen continued to find their offense scoring 2 to secure a 6-5 victory.
The Angels now have 2 more league games in Cloverdale and North Delta before they head to Duncan for the Provincial Championships.
