Tough Summer

MosquitoAAAtier2A Tough Summer for Mosquito AAA Tier 2

Sometimes in baseball, no matter how hard you try you can’t seem to put together a complete game that will give you the victories you need in summer ball.  It was that kind of summer for the Mosquito AAA tier 2 this year. In some games our pitching was good, but our batting and fielding were weak.  In other games our batting came through but a few errors cost us the game.  The few games where everything was solid were the games we won.

We had one victory and one tie at the Cloverdale tournament to start the summer.  Some great pitching by Jackson Krahn, and Peter Choi and 2 home runs by Zach Kramer highlighted the tournament for the Angels.
In the Burnaby tournament near the end of the summer we pulled off a big win against a heavily favoured North Delta team in round robin play to make it into the playoffs but lost a heartbreaker to Maple Ridge in the semi final in which we played great till the end but came up short.  Great pitching by Josh Carscience, Sam Brittain, Cole Kinney, and Brady Fehlauer in the final two games showed the potential we had.  The bats came alive with some solid hits by Kian Dobson, Chad Pedersen, Brady Fehlauer and Tyler Dobson.
Our league play was less than stellar as we played like our Canadian MLB team, Toronto Blue Jays 2013 version, and made too many fielding errors to have any chance of winning.  We had some great moments by several individuals at certain times but everyone contributed to our blooper highlight reel.  You win as a team and lose as a team.
Most improved player goes to Sam Brittain for his overall play.
Most surprising player goes to Tyler Dobson for his hitting.
Most consistent pitching goes to Mattias Maclellan and Chad Pedersen.
Most consistent hitting goes to Aidan Stewart and Chad Pedersen.
We had a lot of fun at practice and playing in those tight games.  The majority of our players were experiencing summer ball for the first time at Mosquito level,  so hopefully they learned how important the fundamentals are and how much fun baseball can be.
