Szmutko Leads Angels Past Spurs
The Abbotsford Peewee A’s improved their record to 2-0 as they topped the Cloverdale Spurs 11-8. Abbotsford got off to a quick 7-0 lead but Cloverdale pecked away to bring the score much closer as the game wore on. Key factors were the pitching performances of Lucas Messer and Kole Jessamine, Lucas pitched a strong 4 2/3 innings and Kole earned his second save. The offense was led by Luke Szmutko who knocked in four runs on three doubles and the Messer twins – Lucas and Nicholas – combined for five hits to knock in an additional two runs. Jadon Ostrom and Brady Rempel also made some key hits that aided the victory. Defensively, Hunter Klassen was a wall at first base and Cameron Evans and Marshal Bilinski anchored the infield as well.
