Silver Medal at 10U Provincials
The Angels came within one strike of victory at the 2015 10U Mosquito Provincials, but instead left with the Silver Medal after falling to the Victoria Eagles.
The team was heartbroken to take the loss and leave the tournament with a just a Silver Medal. The Angels had a dominant season, winning 26 times against just one loss, including going unbeaten against all Canadian competition.
The Provincial Championship Tournament had gone almost exactly as hoped for, as the boys went unbeaten through the Pool stage, with wins against Prince George, Victoria, Chilliwack and Richmond. The team then took care of business against a game Nanaimo Pirates squad in the Semifinals.
Heading into the Final, the Angels were in great shape. The team had plenty of pitching lined up for the final. The boys had beaten Victoria twice already this season, including the final of the Valley of Champions, and a difficult matchup on Day 1 of the Provincials. The boys had a healthy respect for their opponents, but were also confident and eager to go out and beat them one more time.
The Angels trailed 1-0 for much of the game before taking a 2-1 lead into the 6th and final inning. With two outs and a full count the team was just a strike away, but the Eagles rallied to tie the game and take the lead. The Angels could not muster a comeback in the bottom of the sixth.
Congratulations goes out to the players and coaches of Victoria. The Eagles were full credit for pulling out the victory for the Gold in such dramatic fashion. The Victoria pitchers and defence had kept the normally potent Angel bats relatively quiet for most of the day, and they found a way to seize the game when they had the chance.
The players and coaches of Abbotsford are gutted, but in time they will come to see that it was a fantastic season. They will learn from both the winning and the losing. This is an amazing group of kids, and an amazing group of families who support them. This team will be back and heard from on the baseball diamond for many seasons to come.
