Season Over For Both Spring AA Sides
The season is over for both Abbotsford entries into the Spring AA circuit. With a 10-7 loss on Thursday to Vancouver Community, Abby Red couldn’t advance to the semifinals. Nevertheless, they wanted to finish strong and did just that. Red travelled to Chilliwack and pummelled the home team ,needing only 5 innings to take a 13-0 mercy rule victory. Louie Oostenbrug went the distance on the mound in a dominating, complete game shutout. The Red bats were on fire. Some highlights included a broken-bat single to deep left by slugger Massimo Peranio, while Kayden Beauregard and Payton Alexander both hit triples on shots down the right field line.
Meanwhile back at Berry Park, Abby Black entered the game with hope of advancing still. They would need to win over Burnaby and hope for a White Rock loss. They took care of their end of the equation with a 5-4 win at home. However, White Rock won over Cloverdale and knocked Black out of the running.
Clearly the two teams were well sorted at the start, as their playoff finish was almost completely identical, both going 2-2 with equal net runs. A promising start to the year ended with what was a disappointing finish for both Abbotsford teams. Both looked like sides capable of going all the way but fell short of that goal. Despite that, it was a rewarding and enjoyable spring for both teams. Congratulations to the players for a fine season of baseball and thanks to the coaches for all their hard work. Good luck to the boys as they now split off into AAA and AA teams for the summer.
