The Royals head into the long weekend break downing the Phillies at Lions Park!!
The Phillies bats came to do damage in the first inning 5 of 7 batters hitting at the plate chalking up 4 well earned runs. Royals bounced back with an aggressive base running attack and a key hit by Denver Kitt to leave the end of the first tied at 4. Quentin Kobes took the mound for the 2nd shutting the Phillies out in 18 pitches!! The Royals excited battery took to the plate but the Phillies defense lead by 2 strike outs and a throw out to second to close the second only allowed 1 run for the Royals.Quentin returned to the mound in the 3rd but the Phillies were ready and waiting, leading off with a triple by Cardell and scoring 4 runs with 7 hitters.
With the pressure building to regain the lead, the Royals battled to load the bases and a deep triple to the wall by Jakob Loewen rewarded the Royals with 4 runs, re-capturing the lead. Jakob Loewen took to the bump and used his fantastic pitch location to sit the Phillies scoreless in 17 pitches. The momentum certainly shifted to the favour of the Royals, who came out in the 4th to put up 4 more runs with 8 out of the 9 players seeing action at the plate. Denver Kitt secured the victory with a stellar pitching display only allowing 1 run, 1 walk and 2 k’s holding his pitch count to 15!!
A complete team effort, where everyone touched the bases as well as score at least once.. Great job Royals!! A great way to head into a long weekend break!! The Royals are looking forward to Tuesday night’s tilt with the powerful Nationals at Grant Park!!
