Red Sox Win Season Series Over Royals
The first of a 3 game week took place at Lions Tuesday night with the Royals downing the Sox 10-7 with some strong pitching from Riley Kernel, Reid Loewen and Quentin Kobes but it was some key defensive plays by the Royals that kept the Sox offence at bay.
Pita Pit player of the game for the Royals was Kaden Tarnowski for a timely double, shaking the first hit of the year monkey off his back.
Saturday, April 26 saw the Red Sox and Royals take Grant Park for a double header.
The first game saw the first years from both teams try new positions and provide another entertaining game. The Royals saw solid pitching by Kaden Tarnowski, Braden Mills, Riley Kernel, Ken Joe, and Reid Loewen holding the Sox to 8 runs going into the bottom of the 5th. The Sox took the 5th and final inning with impressive plate appearances by David, Brent, Brody, Olivia and Kayden to gain back a run and load the bases. Kaleb stroked a huge triple to score three and put game 2 of the series in the books with a 12-11 victory. The Red Sox has solid pitching from Brent, Brody, Garrett, Olivia and Kayden!!
Pita Pit player of the game for the Royals was Ty Skipper, with a very impressive sliding catch in the field as we as recording his first hit of the season!!
The second game of the day and third in the series was a very impressive showing by the Red Sox. The aggressive Red Sox battery scored 4 in the first putting Cooper on the mound with great control mowing down the Royals in 4 batters. The Red Sox second approach to the plate was just as impressive as the first, scoring 4 runs with a key double by Joel. The Royals were able to claw back in the second to score 4 runs and headed into the top of the 3rd with momentum but the Red Sox offense were here to play and scored another 4 runs with good at bats by Kayden, Olivia, David, Liam and Cooper taking a 12-4 into the bottom of the 3rd inning. With very impressive pitching support from David, the Royals were held scoreless in the 3rd. The Royals put Quentin Kobes on the mound for the 4th, 5th and 6th only allowing one run and striking out 5 but Kaleb shut the door for the Red Sox only allowing one run and recording 9 strike outs in 44 pitched for 3 innings of work, great job!!
To say the Red Sox were on fire for the third and final game of the season would be an understatement!
The Red Sox cemented the series win with 12 hits and 15 strike outs in the third game- well done and good luck the rest of the way!!
Royals Pita Pit player of the game as Liam McNulty, who walked on to the field to experience his first baseball game ever, tagging a steal attempt to third and well as an impressive catch in right field and completing the double play at second base..
The Royals would also like to recognize Sam and Russ for organizing a wicked BBQ between games feeding a load of players and fans.. Also a huge thank you to all the parents who helped to make it go smooth….
