O’s Run Roughshod Over Depleted Nats
Orioles 11
Nationals 8
The Orioles and the Nationals met on Saturday at Noon at Lions Park for what was supposed to be a Double-Header between the two top teams in the American League and National League respectively. Unfortunately Nationals Manager Rob Taylor had his hands tied as he was missing some players for the 1st game, and so many more for the 2nd game that it couldn’t be played.
Despite being shorthanded, the Nats gave the O’s a great game. The first few innings saw a battle of youngsters on the mound as Logan Clark and Jimmy Boulanger took the hill for the O’s while the Nationals countered with Trey Gairdner. The teams traded chances and runs in a see-saw affair. Cade Vanderwoude, Ronan Sexton and Dakota Janzen also pitched and performed well for the Orioles.
The Nationals’ woes continued, as their closer and star slugger Jack Taylor was injured part way through and couldn’t finish the game.
The Orioles got contributions at the plate from throughout the order, with some big hits of note coming from Jarek Sloboda and Hunter Macleod, who took home the Orioles’ Pita Pit Player of the Game award.
Both the Orioles and Nationals look forward to the rematch which is rescheduled for late May.
