Orioles Rally Over Green Giants

Orioles 17
Green Giants 16

imageTadpole Report:  In what most observers were calling the best game of the year in this division, the Orioles narrowly maintained their winning streak with a final inning rally to come from behind and defeat the Green Giants.  The game featured a bit of everything, with great pitching, defense and hitting from both sides.

Bryn Alexander pitched an excellent first inning for the Giants, who took the early lead. Jimmy Boulanger answered for the O’s in the 2nd, with 3 K’s against 5 batters faced. The game continued like that through the middle innings: A great play by one team, such as a leaping snag of a line drive at 1st Base by Nolan Dochuk, matched by a great play for the other team, with another Nolan, the Giants’ Watrin, getting two outs at first after a catch and out on the base runner before he could tag-up at 1st. Tyne Alexander was solid in both the infield and outfield, making numerous defensive assists and put outs. Ronan Sexton of the O’s answered back with some highlight defensive plays of his own.  Both teams hit the ball pretty well, but the difference in the game turned out to be a bit more pop from the Orioles bats, including home runs from Sammy Friess and Trey Gairdner.  Trey’s two run shot knocked in the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the sixth, heroics which sealed the comeback and extended the Orioles perfect record on the season. The Green Giants played an excellent game and made the Orioles work hard to earn the win.  It will be a surprise to neither team if they end up facing each other one more time, this time in the playoff finals.
