Mosquito All-Star Saturday a Hit
One of the highlights of the Mosquito 11U baseball season is the annual Skills Competition on All-Star Saturday. While the weather was a bit cooler and cloudier than in some years, the several hundred players, coaches, parents and other baseball supporters who gathered at Lions Park were still treated to a wonderful day of fun, food and a great celebration of baseball skills.
Every Mosquito player had the opportunity to compete in at least 5 different Skills Competitions on the day. There were a number of full Team Challenges, some group competitions, and some individual contests. Each player also was treated to a Hot Dog Combo from the BBQ. The highlight of the day for many was a new addition to All-Star Saturday, the Dunk Tank. Players had the chance to try to dunk the coach of their choice. To the delight of the assembled crowds, most of the Mosquito coaches were the victims of a drenching in cold water at least a few times. (Though none as many as Coach Steve Coleman of the Red Sox, who was dunked a record 18 times on the day!).
A huge thanks goes out to all the people who volunteered to make this day happen. More than 60 parents (and a few grandparents and siblings) were on hand to help out with running the events, working the BBQ and much more. A day like this simply does not happen without so many people helping out. Of course, all season long the many Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches have given so much to the players, and on this day it was no different. So a big thanks goes to all the Coaches.
And a Special thanks goes to the following: The Wakelyns and all the Pirates parents who took charge of organizing and running the BBQ and the Dunk Tank. Sean McLaughlin for setting up the sound system. Coach Steve for all his cleaning and set up, even sweeping the dugouts! Becky Szmutko for jumping in as the Official Photographer and taking some great shots. And Maryjane Sexton and Ava Clark for being the DJs,Statisticians and Medal Presenters for the entire day.
What a great day. The kids were having fun, smiling and laughing and showing off their baseball skills. It was another successful Mosquito All-Star Saturday.
