Mosquito AAA: Summer 2013
The AAA Angels had a very successful summer season this year. The majority of the team finished second last year to Cloverdale in the A finals. This year the boys were excited about competing again for the BC Provincials title. The team ended June working really hard at refining their pitching and becoming a team. The first tournament of the summer the boys realized that there were a number of really good teams in the AAA division. The team made it to the semis but lost to finished tied for 3rd. The boys continued to make progress throughout the summer. The next tournament the boys finished 3rd in the Valley of Champions tournament. The focus for the team was winning league games and qualifying for the provincials. The team played 6 games and surprised the league by going 5 wins and 1 loss and finishing first overall. The boys went to a third tournament in Lynden and finished 2nd. As the boys prepared for the Provincials the team was playing better defensively hitting the baseball.
At the provincials, the team started by winning the “around the horn” skills contest. On Friday the team defeated the #3 see Ladner Red Sox by a score of 7-2. On Friday afternoon, the team had a shocking loss to Richmond 5-3. On Saturday morning the team defeated Rutland 15-0. The afternoon game was for first place in the pool. The game was against Victoria. The team knew we were in the playoffs so the team was not concerned about winning first place. The Angels played amazingly. Sam Jones pitched a great game that kept the game close. In the bottom of the 6th with 2 out and 2 strikes Mikey Milne hit a walk off single to score the winning run and give the Angels the victory and first place overall in the pool.
In the semis finals the Angels got out to a big lead. The Coquitlam fought back and took the lead in the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th David Draayers scored to tie the game. Chris Pidlisecky came up to bat and drove in Treyson Smith for the winning run. The victory was the second walk off in a row and gave the Angels the berth in the finals.
The team met a determined Victoria who want to avenge a lost in round robin. Victoria jumped out to an 6-0 lead. The Angels bounced back with a 2 run hit by Treyson Smith. That was followed by a 2 run homerun by Josh Siemens. Victoria bounced back the next inning with another four runs. The Angels came back with another 3 runs to draw close but the defence could not stop the Victoria team. The final was 14-7 for Victoria. The Angels finished their season with a great record of 18 wins 7 losses and 1 tie. The team finished in the medals for every tournament. It was a great baseball team with a great bunch of kids and fantastic parent support.
