Mariners Upset Royals
AL Cup Qualifier
Mariners 13
Royals 11
It was a great sunny evening at Lions Park to start the Mosquito Playoffs. The Mariners and Royals were both looking to keep their seasons alive.
After the first inning, the Royals held a slim 4-3 lead. In the second, the Mariners had bases loaded but with two outs, Ryan Naldrett hit a nice shot into centre field, and through some aggressive base running, managed to clear the bases with a Grand Slam. A stingy third saw the Mariners score 1 and the Royals 2, making it 10-8 heading into the fourth. The Mariners managed to score 4 in the top thanks to a Homerun by Brady Fehlauer. Clinging to a 2 run lead, Fehlauer took to the mound for the fourth and fifth, only giving up 1 run. The Mariners could only add 1 more in the fifth due to some solid pitching by Denver Kitt, but were able to hold on for a 13-11 win.
