Astros and Yankees Secure Spots in the Cup Semi-Finals

The Astros and Yankees booked their places in the Mosquito Cup Semi-Finals on Thursday with victories on Monday night. The Astros secured 1st in Pool A on the back of an 11-1 victory over the Cardinals at Centennial Park. Meanwhile, at Lions Park, the Yankees took the 2nd berth in Pool A by demolishing the Pirates, 13-1.  The Astros now face the 2nd place team from Pool B on Thursday night at Lions. Meanwhile the Yankees will be at Centennial to take on Pool B’s top finisher.

The Cardinals and Pirates are relegated to the Mosquito Bowl Competition, and will take on the 4th and 3rd place team from Pool B, respectively, on Wednesday night.

Pool B wraps up play tonight as the Cubs, 2-0, take on the Dodgers, 1-1, while the 1-1 Red Sox face the 0-2 Expos. The Cubs are in the driver’s seat but all four teams still have a chance of advancing.

The Mosquito Shield Series also resumes tonight at Grant Park, as the Royals take a 1-0 lead into their matchup with the White Sox.
