Angels Qualify for AAA Tier 2 Provincials
Mosquito AAA Tier 2 Off to Provincials
A cold and wet Friday evening brought out the PoCo Cardinals to our Lions Park for a game that would likely decide whether or not our Mosquito AAA Tier 2 Angels would be making the trip to Victoria for the Provincials.
Coming off two very strong practices, our boys put together an effort that will be very memorable; very fitting for what will likely be the last game ever played at Lions Park for many of them as most will be moving up into our Pee Wee Division next season.
Your Abbotsford Angels started strong keeping the Cardinals to only 1 run in the first 3 innings while we maxed out the four run limit for each of these frames. Everyone was hitting well from the Angels including Doubles from Chase Vandermeulen and Garrett Ostrom as well as a Double and a Triple by Nolan Watrin. Adding to the effort was some smart base running by Kaden Tarnowski and Evan Booker.
Exceptional defensive play was also a treat for the Abbotsford fans to watch with notable efforts by Ty Skipper, Ezra Brittain, and Jake Davenport. Catcher Logan Van Putten also put together a strong game behind the plate.
Heading in to the fifth inning, your Abbotsford Angels were leading 14-4. As the last PoCo batter stepped up to the plate, the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down. The PoCo batter, with 2 out, drove a ground ball towards pitcher Nolan Watrin who fielded it cleanly and made the final out at first base.
With a record of 4-3, our AAA Tier 2 Angels have clinched a spot in the Provincials in Victoria next weekend.
