Angels and Spurs Split in Bantam AAA
The Bantam AAA Angels split their Double Header with the league leading Cloverdale Spurs on Sunday at Townline Park.
The first game saw Travis McDougall start on the bump. The potent Cloverdale bats built up an early lead, but Travis settled in and took them most of the way before Kyle Stewart took the mound in relief. The Angels never quit and eventually battled all the way back, tying up the game in the 6th, when the Angel bats came alive, led by Dayton Peters and Jayson Smith. In the 7th the boys put a runner on 3rd but couldn’t get him in for the win. The game headed to extra innings. In the top of the 8th the Spurs went deep with a solo shot to take a 5-4 lead. In the bottom half the Angels couldn’t muster enough and the game ended with a W for the visitors.
The Angels were a determined bunch in Game 2. They got on the board early, giving Carter Harbut some run support as he took the hill. The Angels and Spurs continued to battle, and this time it was the Cloverdale team that battled back to tie the game. The Angels responded in a big way, romping through the 6th inning to retake a big lead. The Spurs got a couple back before the Angels closed the door. Carter would give way to Conall Sexton, who came in to close out the 6th and 7th, but still found a way to contribute, including catching deep fly in right field before unleashing a rocket to throw out a runner at home.Carter also led the way at the plate, leading a relentless Angels attack at the plate that included contributions from up and down the batting order. The Angels took the game by a score of 12-6.
It was an entertaining day of baseball in Abbotsford and observers can only wait eagerly for another matchup between these two rivals.
