Abby Red Win it for Mom
The players of Abby Red Peewee AA gave their Moms an extra Mother’s Day gift on Sunday with an entertaining and exciting performance against White Rock. The boys were victorious, won it for their Moms, and captured Poco’s Lyle Nestergard Tournament Championship. The victory was sweet for Abbotsford as it came against a top-ranked White Rock team that had handed Abby Red one of its few defeats on the season. White Rock was a mighty challenge after a series of lopsided victories for Abby in pool play on Friday and Saturday. The boys needed to adjust to a much higher class of pitching from the White Rock hurlers, while the big bats of the South Surrey boys were also daunting. The game was well played from start to finish, with several lead changes and dramatic turning points, none more dramatic than the final play of the game, which saw Kayden Beauregard hit a walk-off three-run home run to put an exclamation point on a 9-7 come from behind victory. Strong performances were turned in by the entire team, including four innings of shutdown pitching from starter Carter Harbut, and clutch hitting from Conall Sexton, who went 3 for 3. Kayden Beauregard was a rock behind the plate for 6 innings and took the mound to shut the door in the 7th, before his dramatic homer sealed a much deserved Player of the Game selection.
