Abby Red Rallies to Remain Unbeaten in Mini Mosquito League Play
Mini Mosquito
Abbotsford Angels (Red) 15
Coquitlam Moody 11
The Abbotsford Angels Red Mini Mosquito Angels traveled to the heart of Coquitlam to take on Coquitlam Moody. In their previous meeting, the Angels had the game well in hand until an open inning meltdown led to defeat in the Rup Dog Tournament. This time the script was different, including a slow start from Abbotsford. The visiting Angels could only muster a single controversial run, while it took a tremendous effort from starter Trey Gairdner to limit the home team to 2. The next few innings saw the hosts extend their lead to 10-6. The 4th inning was a turning point of sorts, as the Angels batters managed to put the 4 runs max on the board, while Pitcher Mattias Meleg struck out 2 in limiting CoMo to just 1 run. The 5th was scoreless, as the Angels batters went cold but were backed up by a shutout inning on the mound from Breandan McLaughlin. Heading into the final inning the Angels trailed 11-10. Bryn Alexander led off with a single, then scored the tying run on a double by Ronan Sexton. Ronan then scored the go ahead run, knocked in by Jimmy Boulanger. A huge double from Garrett Ostrom on a long ball to the fence scored Jimmy, and Mattias knocked in Garrett to give the Angels a 4 run lead heading into the bottom half of the final open inning. Angels closer Ronan Sexton promptly struck out 3 of the next 4 batters to close out the game and secure a 15-11 victory for Abbotsford.
The boys are unbeaten in the Mini Mosquito League and sit in first place, having won 4 and tied 1.
The team now heads to Cloverdale for a final tournament of the summer. Their first game goes Friday night against Highlands Little League from North Vancouver.
