Abby Red Go For Spring Championship
The Abbotsford Angels “Red” Peewee AA squad go for Gold on Tuesday night as they host North Delta in the Spring Interlock Tier 2 Championship. The game goes at 6:00 PM at Berry Park and promises to be an entertaining affair.
The Angels earned their way to the Championship game with an emphatic 8-0 victory over the Vancouver Mounties. The game was dominated by the pitching of Conall Sexton, who went to his maximum in 5 and 2/3 innings. He gave up just one hit, no walks and struck out 12 Vancouver batters for the shut-out victory. David Draayers was excellent as he took over to close out the final four outs.
At the plate the Angels got contributions from throughout the order as the boys worked hard for timely hits and walks and whatever it took to help the team. This was epitomized by Kole Jessamine, who contributed a perfect bunt down the first base line one inning, and a Sacrifice Fly for an RBI in another.
The Angels have had an up and down season. They have played some excellent games against the top teams in the league, and some poor games against teams at the bottom of the standings. They missed out on a spot in the Tier 1 playoffs after some disappointing efforts late in the season. However, since the playoffs began the boys have shown greater consistency and have been playing some good baseball.
North Delta will be looking for a bounce back game after losing to Abby in the pool stages. They went into Chilliwack and crushed the home team to earn a spot in the final. It promises to be a great conclusion to the Spring Season.
