Abby Red Clamp Down in Cloverdale
Peewee AA
Abby Red 3
Cloverdale Black 1
On Tuesday the “Abby Red” Peewee AA Angels travelled to Cloverdale Ball Park, always a challenging place to earn a win. The boys were looking to rebound from a frustrating performance on Saturday against Burnaby in their home opener at Berry Park. In that contest the home town Angels outplayed the visitors in every inning except one. Unfortunately, that inning was bad enough to leave Abby on the short end of an 8-7 score.
The Cloverdale game was hard-fought and both teams contributed excellent pitching and defence. While Abbotsford struggled at the plate, on the other side of the ball they were excellent. Josh Siemens, Logan McDonald, Kole Jessamine and Conall Sexton all delivered excellent innings from the mound. Highlights in the field included a great play by David Draayers who made a great centre field catch and throw to Tyler Nelson at 2nd to catch the baserunner before he could tag up. Another highlight worthy play came in the 5th when Big Kole and Tyler combined to pick off a bewildered baserunner at 3rd. Sexton came in to close things out, pitching two shutout innings, getting 4 Ks along the way. 3-1 was the final score in favour of Abbotsford.
Next up for Abby Red is a home date with Coquitlam-Moody, Saturday, April 12, 5:30 PM at Berry Park.
